Join us on an unforgettable full-day adventure from Inverness to the Isle of Skye, a place of dramatic beauty and captivating history. Known as Eilean a' Cheò (The Misty Isle), the Isle of Skye is one of Scotland’s most iconic destinations, famous for its rugged landscapes, picturesque villages, and historical landmarks. This scenic tour takes you through some of the most stunning parts of the Highlands, including Eilean Donan Castle, the famous Skye Bridge, and the magnificent Quiraing, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
Your tour begins at 8:00 AM as we depart Inverness and travel along the shores of Loch Ness, making our way to Invermoriston. From here, we’ll branch right toward Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye. We pass through Glenmoriston, climbing high to Loch Cluanie, and on a clear day, you will enjoy incredible views of the Kintail mountains and the Five Sisters of Kintail. As we descend into Glen Sheil, we reach Loch Duich and head for our first stop of the day: Eilean Donan Castle.
Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most photographed castles in the world and an iconic symbol of Scotland. Strategically positioned at the meeting point of three sea lochs, the castle has been destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout history. After exploring this historic site, we continue along Lochalsh side toward Kyle of Lochalsh, where we stop for a panoramic view at the Skye Bridge viewpoint. From here, you can see the Skye Bridge and the impressive Cuillin Mountains in the background.
Crossing the Skye Bridge, we pass the ruins of Castle Moil and the village of Kyleakin, once the site of the old ferry terminal. Our next stop is Broadford, Skye’s second-largest settlement, located beneath the protective shadow of Ben na Calliach (The Hill of the Old Woman). From here, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of Scalpay, Paabay, and Torridon.
We’ll then stop briefly at Sligachan, where the old stone bridge offers stunning views of the Black Cuillin mountains, perfect for a photo. Afterward, we continue to Carbost, home to the famous Talisker Distillery, where you can enjoy a dram of the local whisky at the distillery’s visitor center.
Continuing on, we head toward the Trotternish Peninsula, reaching the village of Uig—a ferry departure point for the Outer Hebrides. We’ll stop here for a well-deserved lunch break before heading towards the Quiraing, a geologically fascinating area formed by massive landslips over 100 million years ago. From the Quiraing viewpoint, you’ll be mesmerized by the dramatic landscapes of towering cliffs and hidden plateaus.
Moving on, we stop at Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, where you can see the waterfall cascading 180 feet into the Atlantic Ocean. Afterward, we make our way to the Old Man of Storr, one of the most famous rock formations in Scotland, standing tall at 160 feet.
Our final stop is Portree, the largest town on the Isle of Skye, known for its colorful harbor and charming streets. After a brief stop to explore, we head back toward we will go over the hill to Strathcarron and head towards Garve and Strathconon on our way back to Inverness. Depending on time, we may take the scenic route through Torridon and Kinlochewe.
